Guglielmo Marconi sent and received his first radio signal in Italy in 1895, and is credited as the inventor of Radio. Radio works by transmitting and receiving electromagnetic waves, which travel, through the air at the speed of light, enabling music and speech to travel, invisibly, across thousands of kilometers. A transmitter enables the electrons to rush up and down, and then radiates these waves outward via an antenna. When these waves hit a receiver, they cause the electrons inside the receiver to vibrate, recreating the original signal, which we then hear through the Radio.
In FM (frequency modulation) broadcasting, the frequency of the carrier wave is modulated or varied to encode the sound. A Radio receiver then extracts the original broadcast of music or speech, from the carrier wave and reproduces the sound via a loudspeaker.
