Hydrometer, Heavy Liquids
A hydrometer is an instrument used to measure the specific gravity of a liquid. Specific gravity is the ratio of the density of a liquid to the density of water. The scale on the side ranges from 1.0-2.0 in .01 divisions.

How it works
Fill a tall container, such as a measuring cylinder, about three-quarters full of the liquid you wish to test. Place the hydrometer gently into the container, bulb first. Give it a little spin to dislodge any bubbles. When it comes to rest, read the specific gravity from the scale.
Did You Know?
Winemakers and beer brewers use hydrometers because the density of the wine or beer is an indication of sugar content.
