Maxwell's Wheel
Experience momentum and conservation of energy in a stylish desk curiosity.
Experience momentum and conservation of energy in a stylish desk curiosity... Named after Scottish theoretical physicist James Clerk Maxwell this scientific instrument is an intriguing demonstration of fundamental physics' concepts.
Watch with fascination as the wheel rises and falls; up and down the supporting cable until all the energy is lost to friction and it moves no more. Due to momentum and the conservation of energy it takes longer than you might expect for the wheel to run out of steam.
This quality, fully-functional Maxwell Wheel model is great for a teacher's or corporate desk, and makes a wonderful gift.
Science creativity that's addictive!

What You Get
Maxwell Wheel. Product dimensions: 5.5 x 15.7 x 20cm.
- Sturdy base
- Steel frame
- Supporting cables
- Maxwell Wheel and axle
How Does it Work?
Load the Maxwell Wheel with potential energy by hand-rolling the wheel up the supporting cords, and release. As it falls the wheel releases kinetic energy; when it reaches the bottom the kinetic energy changes to potential energy and it rolls back up again over and over again until all the energy is lost to friction.
