Red Litmus paper is a foolproof pH test to determine if something is a base. The Red Litmus paper will turn blue if the solution is a base, and will remain unchanged if not. Its that simple. The Red Litmus paper does not come with e color chart for this reason. It cannot provide you with a defined pH value.

Simply dip a strip into the solution in question, and if it is a base, the strip will turn blue immediately. The strip has a fast response time, and will change color in just seconds. Note that the solution must be water-based, and you will not know from the Red Litmus Paper what the exact pH is. Use a wide range pH indicator strip for this purpose.
