What is a Weather Wand?

First used by early native Americans like the Abenaki in the northeastern United States and Canada, the Weather Wand is a natural weather barometer.

Natives noticed that the behavior of dry balsam fir branches could predict the oncoming weather. The balsam fir branches would point up to the sky when a high front was approaching indicating good weather. But when the fir branches pointed down toward the ground, a low weather front was approaching bringing with it bad weather.

Today, Weather Wands are saplings that have been harvested from a balsam fir forest, stripped of their bark and then dried. These dried twigs function jut like the natural branches of the fir tree that the Abenaki Indians observed generations ago. Your Weather Wand will let you know what kind of weather you can expect.
